12mo. xi, 214 pp.
Price: $1500
Being a faithful narrative of the unparalleled sufferings endured by the author during his captivity among the pirates of the island of Cuba; with an account of the excesses and bararities of those inhuman freebooters. Smith was captured by pirates on his return to England from Jamaica. The ensuing narrative is a real page-turner. No sooner did Smith make his escape from the pirate than he was arrested in Havanna for piracy, thrown into jail and returned to England in irons, where he was finally acquitted. First edition, and scarce. Gosse p. 65. Very good condition in original cloth binding with leather spine label. Edges lightly sunned. An early ink inscription on the front paste down reads, “Those Pirates.”
