Two or three times a year, my cataloging hits a roadblock. Not one of those metaphorical, mental “roadblocks,” but a real, literal pile of books that has somehow been gathering amidst my slowly-growing collection of rare books and manuscripts. Where does all this miscellaneous stuff come from? A throw-in here, a sympathy buy there, maybe even a small collection of random books that are just too good not to buy, etc.
I’ve got a pretty solid group of rare books in the offing for List 304, but first I need to clear the decks (note the calculated use of nautical expressions) of this miscellany of pretty-interesting stuff, so that I can access my rares without tripping over books that I found just good enough not to not buy.
I mean, I bought them, and I’m an experienced bookman. So you should, too.
