It was the first Boston Book Fair in three years, and we had a good time greeting old colleagues, customers, and friends. Sales were pretty much as expected, and the buying was satisfactory, thanks to a couple of last-minute pickups. Lunches, dinners, and drinks were uniformly up to snuff, though our Saturday night choice was so loud we all went home with sore throats from shouting. Betty Fulton, Julie Roper, the Commonwealth Staff and the Boston Book Fair Committee did a wonderful job getting us in and out, and bringing the people in.
Still, there’s just a bit of nagging dissatisfaction. I truly believed in every item I brought, and I expected each one to sell. I mean, I knew that it was unrealistic to imagine selling my entire booth out, but as I was wrapping each book in bubble and packing it for shipment, I thought, “This should sell.” So I was surprised, in a way, to pick up each book as I was packing up to go home – “Gee, I thought for sure this one would sell.”
Maritime List 318 is composed of 40 of the items deemed most likely to sell that wound up coming home with me. This puzzled me at first, but then I figured it out. Each one of these books failed to sell because it was waiting for you to buy it, and you weren’t in Boston. So here’s the lot of them, right at your (figurative) doorstep.
To order a book from this list, send an email to tenpound@tenpound.com stating the item number and ID number of the book(s) you wish to purchase. (We’re working on a shopping cart feature, but it ain’t here yet.) Our telephone system is back online, so we can take calls, but priority will be given to emails, which are time stamped, and provide “first come, first served” service.
Unless otherwise noted, there will be no charge for postage or insurance on books mailed within the US. We’re happy to provide additional photos or information as time allows.
