The Netherlands were involved as negotiators in boundary disputes between Canada and the US. These, of course, were critical to the future of the American industries extracting timber and other natural resources, as well as the headwaters of the Penobscot and Connecticut rivers. Gallatin’s introduction and editorial work provide context by summarizing the entire history of the dispute, beginning in the early 17th century, and taking us through the Treaty of Ghent to the compilation of this report. See Howes G-28. Gagnon I:1441. Sabin 26393. Scattered foxing throughout. Folding maps in good condition, but show scattered foxing and tanning. Bound in contemporary cloth over boards, ex-libris Taunton (MA) Public Library. This was the copy of one William Baylies, Senator from Massachusetts, who has made a few notes and corrections in the text.
