Rare first edition of what quickly became a standard manual. Craig p. 35. McDonald 286 (citing the 10th edition). This copy has a cancel publisher’s statement at the bottom of the title page. Taylor and Clement, the publisher originally listed on the title page, is replaced by Frye & Shaw. Bruzelius cites Taylor and Clement as publishers. Craig cites Frye. Brewington cites this edition but gives neither a publisher nor a location. I’ve only handled one other copy of this book, which also had the cancel slug on the title page. Bound in original fabric-patterned boards, rebacked in brown leather with spine label. Lacking frontispiece, and priced accordingly. (The only other copies of this edition on the internet are currently being offered at $1500-$1000).
