Samuel Gardner Drake (1798 – 1875) was an antiquarian bookseller, author and historian. He was one of the founders of the New England Hist. Gen., and wrote and edited over a dozen books pertaining to early New England aboriginals and history. This sale of his magnificent library was held in two sessions the year after his death. Volume I contains a detailed essay on his life and work. Bound as issued in printed wrappers. Backstrip of Vol. II is perished. Front wrpa detached but present, back wrap lacking. Both volumes very good internally, with auction attendee’s pencil notes on back blanks.
