Sailing Directions from Point Lynas to Liverpool with Charts, Coast Views, River-Sections… for Navigating the Dee and Mersey (with) Sailing Directions… up to Port Fleetwood”
J. & J. Mawdsley, ( 1840), Liverpool
22.5 cm. xx, (2) 169; 26 pp. b/w fldg. charts, plates, some hand colored.
A detailed coast pilot, this work is notable for its views of coastal features, lighthouses and light ships. Twenty-five plates and maps in all (as called for), some of which are colored or colored in outline, many folding. The large folding frontispiece chart of Liverpool Bay, 64 x 50 cm., is foxed, tanned along folds, and has a repair on a lower fold, with slight loss of image. All other charts and plates are in good to very good condition. Binding is rather worn, with backstrip laid down. This is a scarce book in the trade, with only three auction records, and one online listing. Worldcat shows only five libraries in the US holding copies.
