Howes A-251, first edition, first issue, with prisoners name not given on t-p. During the War of 1812 thousands of Americans were warehoused at Dartmoor. The horrid massacre referred to was the killing of seven prisoners and the wounding of thirty-one during an escape attempt. Text foxed and tanned. Frontispiece re-hinged. Bound in 19th-century half calf over marbled boards with spine label. Top of spine chipped. Short tears on title page which have been repaired. Good condition overall. A scarce book!
