A roundup of 63 of England’s greatest eccentrics, characters, and crazies from the 18th century and before, each with a biography and engraved portrait. Notables include Moll Cutpurse, Mull’d Sack, Pig-Eye Man, and John Metcalf, the Blind Sportsman. Like rubbernecking a traffic accident, it is impossible to open these volumes without stopping to read. This set lacks the portrait of Peter the Wild Boy, not bound in, but is otherwise complete and in excellent condition, in original pink boards, rebacked, with new spine labels.
