The title page says, “Limited Edition.” According to Wright, 180, this is a first edition, and it’s defintiely speculative fiction, as the title also appears in Bleiler. Titles hint at supernatural, but, interestingly, many have a New England connection. Titles are: “Mr. Ray’s tale: An Indian legend of Block Island.-Mr. Smith’s tale: A nameless guest a Narragansett.-Mr. Willett’s tale: A strange lading at the Kennebec.-Mr. Blackstone’s tale: Three ghostly appearings at Study Hill.-Dr. Cranston’s tale: A marvellous cure at Newport.-Mr. Baulstone’s tale: The first caller to mine inn at Portsmouth.-Mistress Porter’s tale: My husbands and other trials.” Inscribed by author on front blank, Sept 1, 1900. Very good condition in publisher’s printed wrappers, which are lightly worn. POD copies available, but original editions are scarce.
