Second edition of this work by the great American author, issued the same year as the first printing. Same format and pagination, but without the frontispiece portraits in the first edition. With biographies of Bainbridge, Shaw, Somers, Shubrick, Preble, Jones, Perry, Woolsey and Dale. According to Howes, some copies were issued with portraits and some were not.
