Henry Webster Rice was a watercolorist and teacher. Born in Portland, Maine in 1853, he died in Watertown Mass. in 1934. He did genre scenes and landscapes, though he specialized in marine views. He was a member of the Boston Society of Watercolor Painters and the Guild of Boston Artists. The scenes here are “Cliff at Point Shirley,” “Fort Independence,” “A Bit of South Bay,” “Sketch at East Boston,” “Sunset, Boston Harbor,” “Old House at Hull,” “Sketch at Hull,” “View at South Boston,” “Fort Warren, “Point Allerton Beacon,” and “Boston Light from Hull.” Probably early 20th century.
