Charlotte de Volt was an instructor at the Boston Music School and a private tutor. She also toured the US with a trio playing primarily at churches in Washington DC, Louisana, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri, Arkansas, and Massachusetts. Her entry for March 2 reads, “Today marked the turning point in my career. The trio played for the Manager from Washington and we got a dandy ingagement. We are to leave around the 1st of April for New Orleans, La, and will tour the US until Nov. 1st.” The diary ends with 24 pages of monthly expenses during her travels. Marvelous account of a young lady’s great adventure. A lot of work, frequent discouragement, and a constant love of music.
