This is a facsimile reprint of a rare signal book. Compiler James Gordon Bennett was a publisher, socialite, and yachtsman, winner of the first trans-Atlantic yacht race. He was Commodore of the New York Yacht Club, and he assembled this book on behalf of the Club. Worldcat lists only the 1871 edition, but there is an auction record for a similar title dated 1874. Morris & Howland p. 284, confirm this. Along with the 1871 publication, they list an 1874 edition in the same size and format. There is no mention of this facsimile, so we presume it was highly limited. Fine condition. bound in full cloth with a leather spine label. For pruposes of comparison, I sold the 1871 original for $1500 a few years ago. This copy only
