Item #50059
Arguments Against Appropriation for Cape Cod Harbor, Before the Joint Committee on Harbors.
May, J. Wilder and F.W. Bird.
Wright & Potter, ( 1868), Boston
23 cm. 36 pp.
Price: $50

These days we’re very aware of the dangers presented to seaside properties by climate change in the form of shifting sands, eroding beaches, and higher tides. However, this problem has existed as long as there have been beaches. In the mid-19th century Provincetown threatened to drift away from the rest of the Cape (caused by tidal erosion rather than political action), and the movers and shakers of the day pondered the extent of the problem and how to fix it. Stab-sewn self wrappers, very good condition.
