Salem mans relation of an 1831 Pacific whaling voyage aboard a Nantucket ship. According to Forster, #41 the narrative recounts a Whaling voyage 1831-35 in the Nantucket ship Baltic, Captain William Chadwick, to Pacific Ocean – Juan Fernandez, Sandwich and Society Islands (Unana – Huahine) and Galapagos. Account includes description of whaling activities. – Forster #41. Jenkins p. 95. This first edition is scarce, with Worldcat showing only 11 libraries holding copies. In original printed wrappers, with a decorated border and engraving of a whale ship on the front wrap. Pagination is in order through page 25, then proceeds as follows: 30, [blank], 28, 29, 26, 27, [blank]. Thus, it is complete but misbound. Wrappers lightly soiled, with chipping on the lower corner of the front wrap. Overall an excellent survival of a fragile pamphlet. Lightly worn, with faint tide mark at bottom of some text pages. Offered with With 1981 and 1998 reprints from Ye Galleon Press, which have authoritative commentary from Kenneth Martin.
