A treatise on rowing, training and exercise, with all necessary information for amateur and professional oarsmen. Also a history of rowing… biographical sketches of prominent oarsmen, description of boat-building, dictionary of boating terms, etc., etc. This is early for an American book on rowing. According to Tom Weil’s bibliography, it is only the 8th book on rowing published in the United States. Scarce in the trade, with nothing but reprints online. Endpapers heavily foxed, text block much less so. Bound as issued in publisher’s navy blue cloth, backstrip laid down. First line of title on title page excised, with paper repair. With a signed note from George Goodspeed, on Goodspeed letterhead, quoting this copy to rowing historian and author Thomas Mendenhall.
