First American edition of a work that was published in London in 1722 which Howes, assigning it an “aa” rating, says is a “bold assertion of the rights of England to the entire Gulf Region… which had been granted to the author’s father, with a description based on a residence there… His book… later adopted as Franklin’s Albany Plan… was the first English account of Louisana.” Howes C-826. This book is important for another reason. Streeter points out that “In the Preface is the first printed proposal for a political confederation of all British North American colonies…” Streeter II, 1120. Folding frontispiece map is complete, but shows old repairs and is split along the left vertical fold. Title page is rather grubby, otherwise the book is in very good condition, solidly rebound in brown buckram with gold spine lettering.
