The more they stay the same.
Didn’t think I’d have time to post an entry this week because I’m busy cleaning up the leftovers from the Howland estate – hundreds of lowish-end books, too good to throw away, but a challenge to sell.
However, cataloging Watson’s “Annals of Philadelphia” (the 1884 revision), I came across a paragraph so striking I simply had to share it with you.
It’s in volume II, p. 621, in a section entitled “Rowdy Assassinations.”
“The frequency of these deathly assaults on fellow citizens, without compunction, by those who have gone into the use of Colt’s pistols… are wholly affairs of modern times. The fatal instruments, and their terrible effects, are of latter day origin.”
John says
A sad & harrowing find. Colt also owns the registered trademark for the AR-15, presumably to keep a hand in the “rowdy assassinations” game.

Lord, lord, Watson nails it, doesn’t he?
