Harper’s edition, without abridgement. Marryat visited America in 1837 and this novel presumably resulted from his travels there. Despite the suggestive title, there is a component of fiction here. Howes calls this work “Incredible adventures of an imaginary Frenchman borrowed from various sources” See Howes M-302. Cowan p. 416. Sabin 44698. Somehow, the 900 pages of the first edition – a triple decker – are squeezed into 133 pages of minuscule two-column type. In original wrappers, bound in 1/4 polished calf over boards. Very good condition
