First expanded, and best edition. “From the declaration of War by France in 1793 to the accession of George IV… with additions by… Captain Chamier…” The standard nineteenth-century reference for the Royal Navy during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. This edition extends the narrative beyond the original work with coverage of the Burmese War and the Battle of Navarino (1827). It contains 24 engraved plates of British naval heroes of the Napoleonic wars including Nelson, St. Vincent, Howe, Hood, De Saumarez, Collingwood and Broke; 38 diagrams and plans; and 28 folding annual abstracts of the ships and vessels of the British Navy, 1793 to 1820. Bound in 19th century full diced calf with heavily gilt spines and red spine labels. A beautiful set of a worthy history.
