King Charles was executed in 1649. The monarchy was abolished and the Commonwealth of England was established as a republic. The monarchy would be restored to Charles’s son Charles II in 1660. Contents as listed on title page – “1.The complete Tryal of King Charles the First; 2.The Loyal Martyrology; 3. An Historical Register; 4. The Loyal Confessors.” These events signaled the foundation and short life of “The Commonwealth of England. “Sixth edition, very much enlarged.” The 18th century text is bound in later 19th century half calf over marbled boards with spine label. Very good condition, and scarce! Nothing but a cripple and modern reprints online.
