This is an 1856 reprint of a temperance novel first published in New York in 1853. As such, it is the first novel published in Ann Arbor. Can’t say I’ve read it, but Chapter VI, “The Inebriate Wife” sounds interesting. See Wright 1345. With presentation inscription from Alvin Cormer, June 1856, and ownership signature of Elizabeth Hoffman. Bound in publisher’s red cloth with gold cover lettering and spine ornament. Covers worn, text clean.
