The series of thirty-eight hefty volumes comprising The American State Papers was published between 1834 and 1861. They included all legislative and executive documents pertaining to Foreign Relations, Finance, Military Affairs, Post Office, Claims, Indian Affairs, Commerce and Navigation, Public Lands, Miscellaneous, and Naval Affairs. These two volumes contain documents that cover every aspect of American naval hisory for their respective periods. Volume IV contains a large folding chart of Narragansett Bay, 1832 surveyed, in part, by Charles Wilkes. Bound in later blue buckram.
