An account of Cambells journey to China and Japan, and along the coast of Alaska. Of great value is his description of the Hawaiian Islands. Campbell became close to Kamehameha I, King of Hawaii, and became the kings sailmaker. He built the first loom in those islands. After a shipwreck, Campbell had both his feet frozen… – Hill 245. This is the second New York edition, cited by Hill, who notes, American imprints of this date, relating to Pacific voyages, are rare. Scattered foxing, but a good copy in modern full calf with spine label. Original spine label is tipped onto front blank. The folding map, colored in outline, is missing a piece in the lower left corner, with some loss of image. Priced accordingly
