Containing a full and particular account of the sufferings and privations of all the American prisoners captured on the high seas, and carried into Plymouth, England, during the Revolution of 1776… also an account of the several cruises of the squadron under the command of Commodore John Paul Jones… Compiled from the journal of Charles Herbert of Newburyport… who was taken prisoner in the brigantine Dolton… Scarce contemporary account of revolutionary Naval action by an American sailor. Second ed. (the first was 1847) Howes H-434. Smith I, 736. Bound in blind stamped red cloth with gold lettering and decoration. Front blank signed by Frank B. Livesey, a presumed relative. Crack at bottom of back joint, else very good condition.
