First edition of what is arguably the greatest open-boat survival narrative in the literature of the sea. This is Captain Blighs own account of the mutiny, one of the most remarkable incidents in the whole of maritime history. After the publication of his narrative, Bligh presented copies to the Lords of the Admiralty and other influential people in the hope that his account of the mutiny would absolve him from any blame that might have been leveled against him because of the incident. – Hill 132. OReilly-Reitman 543. Mackaness p. 128 (and) IIa. The large folding plate of the “Track of the Bounty’s Launch” is soiled and has been misfolded at some point in its past, with light fraying along top and bottom edges of the paper, not affecting the image. Overall, text and plates are clean and lightly tanned. Tidily rebound in half calf over boards. First edition of a seafaring classic at a reasonable price.
